INTRODUCTION

Christian education involves the whole person. Therefore, it is desirable that all elements which bear on the education of a child be consistent and properly reinforce one another.

In view of this, it is of paramount importance that a Christian school be supported by a Christian home and a Christian church. The Grace Christian School was founded to educate the children of Christian parent(s). The school does not replace the training of the home or the church. All three should be complementary. It is necessary, therefore, that parents agree with the philosophy and teaching of the school.

The following admission policies have been adopted to assure consistent standards of admission in agreement with the philosophy of the school.

ADMISSIONS POLICIES

(1) The parent(s) or guardian(s) must declare that they have accepted and continue to acknowledge Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior (An exception may be made when only one parent or guardian is a believer, provided the non-believing spouse agrees not to oppose the Biblical teaching of the school.)

(2) The parent(s) or guardian(s) must state by signature that they have read, understand the Statement of Faith and Philosophy of Education (See GCS Parent-Student Handbook) and both must agree to support GCS and to have their children educated in accordance therewith.

(3) Parents/guardians have read, agree with, and will perform what is required by the Parent's Agreement.

(4) Parents must be interviewed by the Administrator.

(5) All prospective students must be given an entrance test to determine grade placement and to determine if the prospective student fits the educational capabilities of the school. (Exceptions granted based on prior testing records.)

(6) Prospective kindergarten students must be five years old by September 1 of the school year.

(7) Students of school families have priority over students of prospective school families that are in a waiting pool. Additional criteria will also be used to determine acceptance. They include active attendance at East Side Grace Brethren Church, ability to successfully contribute to the life and program of the school, date of receipt of application, registration fee, student transcripts, brother-sister combinations, previous association with the school, children of faculty and staff, and length of time in the waiting pool.

(8) Admission may be refused to a student with severe behavioral, psychological or learning difficulties.

(9) Admission for children with special needs will be determined on a case by case basis. Children with mental and physical special needs must receive services from trained specialists as a part of the complete academic experience at GCS. The ability to partner in these services with such specialists will directly determine the ability to admit a child to GCS.

(10) The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, gender, or national and ethnic origin in the administration of its admission policies.

(11) Each applicant entering school for the first time (Kindergarten) is to have a physical examination by a physician reported on the school medical form. This must be submitted to the school prior to the opening of the school year. All students new to the school must have proper proof of immunization. Students transferring from another school must submit the completed medical form.

ADMISSION PROCESS:
  • Review the detailed information package
  • Schedule a school tour and interview with the Administrator;
  • Submit a completed application with the fee;
  • Provide an original birth certificate and social security card;

  • Upon completion of the above steps, the decision will be finalized regarding admission to the school. Acceptance or rejection of applicants will be by written notification.
